One of the most notable temples in Phuket, Wat Chalong or Wat Chaitaram is located in Amphoe Mueng, a holy place of pilgrimage reputed to house a fragment of bone from the Buddha. Though a sacred site for Buddhists, visitors are warmly welcomed and given the opportunity to learn about the faith and the Buddhist way of life while admiring the gilt-covered statues of venerable worthies. Wat Chalong is also famous for compounding traditional medicines from locally grown herbs.
